Three countries “corner”

Yesterday we came to Saint Louis – a city close to Basel.

What is interesting about St. Louis is, it’s a city which boards Switzerland and Germany.

St. Lois offers cheaper hotel rates than nearly all near located hotels in both Germany and Switzerland.

Immediately after check-in we went by rental car back to Germany to the town called Lörrach.

Lörrach is a mid-size town which has all kind of shops and restaurants.

Today we discovered the Euro airport (Basel, Freiburg and Mulhouse) and I discovered the Huningue and Village-Neuf (because of the unstable weather [rain with sun spells] my mother decided to stay in the hotel).

Huningue is a really small town and is really close to the Saint Louis. Effectively they’re nearly merged together because the place where Saint Lois ends begins Huningue and vice versa and Village-Neuf in my opinion is as it’s name says a mid-sized village.

And in the evening I went for a walk into Basel, Switzerland.
I walked up to the old city and turned back.
I don’t have any pictures from this night, as my particular camera isn’t very good at taking pictures at nights (the quality of pictures taken with my camera at night sucks), however below you can see some pictures from one of my previous trips to Basel.

How did my journey to the USA go. Part II

Part I is herehttp://www.ladtravel.com/how-did-my-journey-to-the-usa-go-part-i/

After the Gold Mastermind face to face event in Stamford I went back to New York, where I stayed for 5 more days in a NY Moore Hostel.

I like staying in hostels because you get a wonderful opportunity to meet tons of new and interesting people.
The hostel I was staying in was mainly occupied by the young adults.

I booked this hostel by using hostelbookers.com

The lockers in the room are for free what you need is a lock, which you either bring with you or you can buy either at the reception for 3 dollars or in a convenience store just around the corner for a bit cheaper.

You can store your valuable possessions more or less secured and thus have a peace of mind.

You cannot cook in this hostel, however there is a community area and there you can microwave your food and | or boil some water for your tea. There is also a coffee machine. Just in case you drink coffee.

I was told that Hi New York Hostel is

  1. one of the biggest in NYC and the whole of US
  2. I don’t know whether it’s really is the case

  3. has kitchen to cook in
  4. and

  5. has also free lockers

Should I come to the New York once more and should I decide to stay in a hostel again I’ll check this one out for sure.

I spent time discovered the city by utilizing my one week unlimited travel MTA ticket and walking in different parts of the city visiting different attractions like Coney Island, Wall Street and many different parks in the city.

Yes there are still some green spots in the city and it’s great.

I visited and walked in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens.

I was able to find China town and Flushing, Little Italy, which is very close to China Town, in fact it’s literally across the street from China Town.

I discovered Polish and Russian areas.

Polish in Brooklyn in the Manhattan Avenue and Russian in the Brighton Beach Avenue.

This regards to food you can find literally any kind of restaurant and cuisine you’re looking for.

And you can find some very good places where you can eat good and affordably, if you stay in New York long enough or if you’re a naturally born discoverer.

How did my journey to the USA go. Part I

As soon as I arrived in the US in Philadelphia I wrote to Ray Lin who kindly agreed to host me in his house and let him know that I arrived in the US.

From Philadelphia after all the control were behind me I transfered into terminal F and flew to the La Guardia (LGA) airport in New York.
The flight takes only 20 minutes.

The airplanes are really little and the flight I was on was full. All the seats were filled. And the airplane jokingly named by me and a neighbor in the seat near me Airbus was really like a bus in the air.

Upon arrival in the airport I called Ray and after some time he came, picked me up and took me to his house.

I was well covered for two nights.

I slept in the basement and had my own sleeping room, a dining room with a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom with a shower.

Thanks to the CS and Ray I had a pleasant stay for the first two nights.

Having spent the first whole day in NYC and kind of got the initial orientation in the city, bought ticket to Stamford and on Sunday the 10th June I went there, where I had a hotel reservation in a hotel called Amsterdam.

I did my reservation using booking.com based on the nearest location to the Gold Mastermind face to face event from clientattraction.com by Fabienne and Derek Fredrickson.

The hotel where the event took place was Sheraton and it was 50$ more expensive even with a discounted rate than the hotel I stayed in.

Sheraton Stamford

Unfortunately I left my driving license at home (I simply forgot it in the wallet) and hence I couldn’t rent a car and discover different removed areas.

Just about 50 meters away from the Amsterdam hotel there was Enterprise car rental office where I could’ve rented a car.

I like walking. It’s a good exercise and while you’re walking you can discover the areas around you and a more detailed scale.

I walked in different public and residential areas close to the water.

I discovered and checked out two parks in Stamford: Cummings Park and Cove Island Park. Both of them are nice and both of them have access to the water.

The Cove Island Park is slightly bigger and I guess, is more popular, as a got to see it.

Stamford has some good restaurants, which are mainly located in the downtown area.

There is a good Italian restaurant in the Cove Island Park area and there was another one not so far away from the Amsterdam hotel.

The restaurant in Sheraton hotel was OK as well, however a bit expensive in comparison to some other restaurants in the downtown area.

In the main shopping mal of Stamford town – “Stamford town centre” there are also couple of good and affordable restaurants.

Such as this one:

P.F. Chang's China Bistro

In the shopping mal was a variety of different shops from shoes and clothing to books and perfumes.

Preparing a trip to US

Now I’m in the preparation stage for my trip to US.
As I usually do it, I utilize all the tools in the internet I know about, starting with Google Maps and down to accommodation | flight | car reservation sites.

Because I used to host people from couchsurfing.org I also trying to find couch surfing opportunities for myself.
This is rather disappointing so far, because for my trip to Bratislava (Slovakia), which was about a year ago, I wasn’t able to find a couch to surf for me and my cousin and the story repeats itself for US trip, however it’s only me, who is looking for a couch now.

This brings me to the thoughts as why am I hosting people at all if I don’t get the same hospitality in return?

However I went off track a bit.

My personal experience over many years and in different countries shows that Europcar usually provides the most affordable quotes and prices, with a full transparency and the support, at least for me, also was exceptional and brilliant all the times I called them.

When I book a car I always try to find the closest car rental station to the point of my departure.

Having a car saves you spending money for luggage storage.

If you calculate your forecast spendings, it totally makes sense considering having a rental car, providing you’re going to change locations and you have a valid driving license.

Because it proven to be very difficult to find a couch to surf, my itinerary so far will look the following way:

On the 8th June I’ll arrive in the US.

As soon as I get my luggage, how long will it take will define my further course of action, because majority of car rental stations in Manhattan are opened up to 20:45 and then they close.
If I manage to get to a car rental station before they close I eventually will end up renting and having a car for several days.
Once I have a car I’ll make myself onto the way towards Boston, Massachusetts, which should take by car about 5 hours.

Should I be late and the car rental station will be already closed I’ll make myself on the way to Penn Station where I will buy a ticket for the train to Boston.
It’ll be a night train and in the morning I shall reach Boston.

What I hope to see and do in Boston is, seeing the film shooting locations from the movie with Leonardo diCaprio I like a lot – “The Departed”.

The film is one of the reasons why I’ve chosen to visit the city at all. Apart from that the city has a rich history and I’m hoping to experience it first hand, being in the scene and on the spot(s).

Boston Tea Party is quite a term for me as well.

So far I wasn’t successful in finding a couch to surf in Boston either. Should I, closer to the date, still don’t have a couch, I’ll look for a hostel where I’ll spend one night and the next day I’ll make myself on the way to Stamford, where the actual cause of me | my coming to US will take place.

I’m coming for the Gold Mastermind from Fabienne and Derek Fredrickson, which as you may already guessed it, will take place in Stamford, Connecticut.

I will write more detailed about the event either on this site or that site’s blog

You can subscribe yourself to our newsletters on either or each site and you’ll be informed about it and about the latest news.

Being informed is a choice and it’s totally up to you whether you choose to be informed or not.

Make you choices carefully, they may and most certainly will change your life… Especially our sites and our newsletter.

Inwardly you’ll know what the right course of action is and you intuitively will know, actually you already know what to do.

Once the Gold Mastermind event will be over I’ll make myself on the way towards NYC where I’m planning to spend the whole 5 days discovering the city (it’s going to be my first time to | in NYC) and hopefully shooting video and writing lots of posts, letters, newsletters, making e-zines and v-zines…
Let’s see.

I’m planning quite a lot… Let’s see how much of the planned I actually will end up doing and performing.
I’ll keep you posted or not. We’ll see.

As for now, I’m already really excited about my soon to be journey and I have lots of hopes and plans for it.
